From the Dark Tunnel tells the story of abuse and survival endured by Tori Kannyn. A girl's father is supposed to be her first protector, but this was not the case for Tori. Her father filled her childhood years with beatings, rape, and mental abuse. Tori tells how she fought each of those battles. She managed to find the silver linings on those bad days at her father's house and to use them as tools to survive and eventually escape her abusers.

The story expands through the years that Tori spent adjusting back into society, all the while continuing to fight the demons that lingered inside her mind. She had to learn to accept herself, to face her past, and to destroy it. Eventually, she was able to look in the mirror again – without having her 11-year-old self looking back at her. Tori also created a safety plan that can be used by educators, community leaders, parents, social workers, and more. It is a guide to educate children and teens on survival, strangers, and abuse. She even pulled the words from the mind of a pedophile to show children what these evil people might say to them, so they know how to respond.

Feeling the aftermath of abuse can drain the life, energy, and self-esteem of a survivor, but only if they let it. It takes strength and determination to rescue yourself from that. This became a lifelong battle for Tori. Thanks to the people who came into her life through the years, she found her light at the end of the dark tunnel.
